Match Report
Coming off a long break the Lothian League Lions returned to action Friday to take on the LL Galaxy. The Lions got on the board first with a steal by Kerim TürkmenoÄŸlu that led to a fast break lay up. Hoping to set the tone early, the Lions created good looks by attacking the basket only to have the ball roll in and out. Fortunately, the Galaxy could not take advantage of the Lions hard luck, as they too were struggling to score. Baskets being hard to come by would prove to be the real theme of the game. Both teams showed great movement on the defensive end and were quick to swipe at the ball making point guards work for their drives, nobody demonstrated this better than Andreas Vroutsis, a former Galaxy player. He made his presence felt providing the bulk of the Lions offence and using his hands to cause some turnovers. The Lions found themselves down two at the half. The third quarter was more back and forth, an excellent defensive and offensive effort by Stavros Kokkinopoulos and some solid shooting by Konstantinos Androutsos kept the Lions within reach of the Galaxy heading into the 4th. The 4th quarter saw the hard luck of the opening minutes return as the ball would not go down for the Lions, who would stay within 4 points of the Galaxy for a five minute stretch. In the end the Galaxy finished strong to claim the win, ending the Lions perfect start to the season, dropping them to 3-1.
For Lions Andreas Vroutsis was voted as MVP for his strong defensive effort and great perimeter shooting.
